Accountability
A writing response I wrote for SCOM 358, Business and Professionalism. For this response, were to read three articles dealing with accountability. Upon reading, we were asked to give a response on our interpretation, and thoughts of accountability. I relate accountability with the words responsibility and courage. Being accountable for yourself and actions ultimately leads to physical, mental, and emotional growth. ACCOUNTABILITY
Mistakes are inevitable in our lifetime. Those mistakes do not define us. How we react is what defines who you are. The initiative that you take within yourself and your environment is what defines who you are. Reactions and initiative that can be improved through accountability. Accountability is a mindset, one of which I pride myself on. When thinking of the word accountability, to me it signifies; responsibility, courage, and growth.
I am a result of myself. Everyday a new decision or choice has to be made which leads to a consequence. It does not matter if the decision made was right or wrong, it matters that I can internally and externally recognize that I made it. Whether it be in the work place or outside of it, I take on responsibilities. With each responsibility, I put my time and focus into it but if I do not, then I am also responsible for the consequence that proceeds it. Most importantly I am responsible for myself. Accountability is a way for me to recognize my responsibilities in life and hold myself accountable to those.
With accountability comes courage. Failing is never an easy thing in life. Sometimes there are obstacles that can stand in the way of you and your goal. Obstacles that can discourage you and lead you astray. If you are able to hold yourself accountable and recognize when you have taken the wrong path, then it can put you back on the right one. It takes a lot of courage in yourself to admit when you’ve done wrong.
Growing physically, mentally, and emotionally is something we do all of our lives. Accountability allows for all three of these things to grow. It is easy to put yourself down rather than pick yourself back up. Take action and hold yourself accountable for continuing growth. The most important person in your life is yourself. Take care of yourself and nourish your mind. Be accountable for putting in the work that you need to obtain that new look, that positive outlook, or forgiving yourself for where you went wrong.

My Definition of Leadership
A personal essay I wrote for SCOM 358, Business and Professionalism. In this essay I give a glimpse of what leadership means to me and how I implement that in and out of a work place. Having leadership within the workplace pushes for growth. Leaders guide individuals to seek greatness and to build confidence within one another. Leadership is about shaping other individuals into future leaders, which in the long run maintains and can help stimulate a company's success. LEADERSHIP
When thinking about leadership, words such as power and confidence come to mind. However, a leader simply does not contain one specific trait that automatically makes them a good leader. It is how one uses those traits to influence others that defines who they are as a leader. Therefore, my definition of leadership is having or even creating a common vision of the future that an individual can rouse others into taking action to reach that vision. Being in a leadership role does not mean bossing around other individuals purely to get the job done. It should mean working with those people and giving them a guiding hand. Being a leader is similar to becoming someone else’s role model. As a leader, you want to shape others not to be like you but to be better than you are. Leadership is not a selfish concept. It is about focusing on everyone that surrounds you. Putting everything you have to offer on to the table every day to show that you care not only about the vision but about other individuals.
A leader is someone who is charismatic and ethical. They are confident but also unafraid of admitting when they are wrong. In order to gain followers, a leader must be able to tap into others emotions as well as their own. They should be sympathetic with individuals but also stern when it comes to the task at hand. Leadership is about confidence. Staying strong for the followers when times become difficult but never lying to them about the circumstances. A leader should promote confidence in their followers as well. Good communication is key.
Not everyone is a leader. Not everyone is a perfect leader. Leadership can be seen as a broad topic. When I think of leadership, I do not think of just one approach. A leader must assess their surroundings, learn about the parties involved, form their vision and then choose a leadership style that best fits. Individuals will not learn the same way nor respond in the same way to certain leaders. It is important that a leader knows their audience and can in some way relate to them not for their benefit but for the individuals benefit.
